Where all your 3D models are flattered and flattened.
Drop OBJ file here
Upload a Wavefront OBJ file with UV seams.
Supports: Blender UV seams · named "seam" groups · boundary edges
iHow seam detection works
The app detects UV seams — edges where two adjacent faces have different UV coordinates for the same 3D vertices.
This is how Blender marks seams when you use Edge → Mark Seam and unwrap with UV → Unwrap. The resulting UV layout is used directly as the flat 2D pattern.
For OBJ files without UV coords, named seam groups or boundary edges are used instead.

How to use The Flattery
Turn a 3D OBJ into printable sewing pattern pieces, then build yourself an Assembly Board to stitch it all back together.
Before You Begin
Prepare your OBJ in your favorite 3D software
Select the mesh in Edit Mode.
Mark the cut edges with Edge → Mark Seam.
Run UV → Unwrap.
Export as Wavefront (.obj) with UVs included.
We’re especially fond of Blender. The Flattery treats your UV layout as the flat pattern, so cleaner seams and unwraps make cleaner pattern pieces.
Step 1
Upload
Drop in an OBJ file or click to browse. If your file includes UV seams, those will drive the pattern split automatically.
Step 2
Review
Spin your 3D model around and compare it with the unrolled 2D pattern pieces. Drag to rotate, Cmd + drag to pan, and scroll to zoom.
Set the Longest Model Dimension, and the pattern pieces will scale right along with it.
Turn on the Measuring Cube when you want a quick width, height, and depth check around the model.
Step 3
Label
Name each piece so your exports stay tidy and easy to read.
Click a pattern piece card, or double-click the model, to jump to the matching section.
Step 4
Download
Choose your seam allowance.
Turn names, sew lines, and cut lines on or off depending on what you want to see.
Switch between two Preview Modes: Pattern Pieces and Pattern Guide.
Pattern Pieces mode lets you preview the full layout and export as SVG, DXF, PNG, or PDF. The exports are scaled to your Longest Model Dimension.
Pattern Guide mode adds seam labels to show you how all the pieces are sewn back together.
Step 5
Assemble
Build a visual sewing guide by adding pieces to the board and highlighting individual seams, so it’s easier to follow how everything connects.
Add pieces to the Assembly Board: Double-click a piece on the 3D model or in the list to place it on the board.
Highlight a seam: Option-click a seam on the 3D model or Assembly Board to reveal the other pieces that share it.
What The App Detects
Seams can come from three places
UV seams, where neighboring faces use different UV coordinates.
OBJ groups named seam.
Open boundary edges when no UV data is available.

Quick tips
Use clean manifold meshes when possible.
Set the real-world Longest Model Dimension before exporting patterns.
Name pieces before downloading so printouts stay easy to follow.
Use the assembly tab when a shape has several similar pieces.
Happy with the seams? Head to Label to name your pieces — we'll iron out the details ;)
